JUSTICE DENIED TO US BRAZENLY: FAMILY OF SHOPIAN VICTIMS

Posted on

In occupied Kashmir, the family of two Kashmiri women, Neelofar and Aasiya, who were raped and murdered by Indian men in uniform in May 2009 in Shopian, has said that justice has been brazenly denied to them.

According to Media Service, Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger, the husband of Neelofar and brother of Aasiya, in a media interview in Srinagar said that the past five years were full of agony and pain for the family. He said that the incident symbolised brutality, travesty of justice and a systemic pattern of abuse of power by Indian forces’ personnel, who had been enjoying impunity for their actions under the protection of black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the occupied territory.

“We approached every forum for justice which still eludes us. Barring few, we were not supported by anyone, but we thank people of Kashmir especially the people of Shopian who always stood by us through thick and thin,” he said.

Shakeel Ahangar maintained that all Indian official investigating agencies right from the Special Investigation Team to the Central Bureau of Investigation spread canards of lies and rumours and used a section of media as a tool to leak misinformation to confuse people of Kashmir as well as the victims’ family.
