In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities once again sealed Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, today, disallowing the faithful to offer Juma prayers inside the historic mosque.
According to media sources, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who address the faithful at the mosque every Friday continued to remain under house arrest. The puppet authorities had imposed restrictions in Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas of Srinagar to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the increasing incidents of braid-chopping. Call for the demonstrations was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said that disallowing prayers was an assault on the religious affairs of the people of occupied Kashmir. “As assaults on us increase each day by the Indian government and their local henchmen, Friday prayers have been barred from taking place at Jamia Masjid and people of that area made hostage in their homes while I continue to be kept under forced house detention!,” the Mirwaiz tweeted.
