Kashmiri Students Evicted From College in India

Kashmiri students pursuing various courses in a Chandigarh college in the Indian state of Punjab have staged a protest demonstration in college premises against their eviction from the institution after failure of the Indian government to provide them with the pledged scholarship. According to media sources, the protesting students were demanding the release of funds under the Indian Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSS). Students later told a newspaper in Kashmir over phone from Chandigarh that they had been evicted from the campus and hostel following non-release of payment under the scheme. They said that the puppet administration had also failed to provide them with any assistance while they were denied the appointment to call on puppet Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to apprise him about their grievance and demand.“We were enrolled in Indigo Global College of Engineering Chandigarh under PMSSS. The scholarship money has not been released to the colleges despite the fact that we have fulfilled all the formalities,” said the students. PMSSS was launched in 2011, which many think was a trap to spoil the educational career of brilliant Kashmiri students in the name of scholarship.
