Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said that the APHC General Secretary and party Chairman, Shabbir Ahmad, who is detained by the Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi is being subjected to physical and mental torture.
According to media sources, the DFP General Secretary, Maulana Abdullah Tari addressing a press conference in Srinagar said the motive behind the arrest of Hurriyet leadership and implicating them in fabricated cases through biased and unethical Indian media is nothing but to discredit and malign their image. He said, “Though India through its military might is already hell bent on suppressing our freedom movement, now it is harassing the resistance leadership by accusing it of receiving funds from foreign countries to spread terror in the territory thereby giving an impression that the freedom movement of Kashmir is not indigenous.” “Shabbir Shah has been kept in a room where there are not even basic facilities including a fan. It is now obvious that Indian authorities want to kill him under a conspiracy,” the DFP secretary general feared. He added that Shabbir Shah’s family members approached Delhi court to get in contact with him but was declined meeting and told them he is currently under judicial remand. Later Shabbir Shah’s wife was allowed to meet him only for few minutes after a day’s wait.
All Parties Hurriyet Conference has said that the resistance leadership has decided to take legal action against India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) as well as sections of Indian media for character assassination of its leaders and family members.
According to media sources, the APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar said the party Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani did not take up a political career for material gains or for his livelihood, adding that the octogenarian leader never feels shy or is afraid of any accountability in public. Police on Sunday prevented Syed Ali Gilani from holding a press conference by not allowing reporters to enter his Hyderpora residence. He had called for the press conference against the allegations by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and some Indian news channels for negative campaign against him, his family and his party men. The NIA has arrested seven top Hurriyat leaders and summoned 30 others in fake cases of money transfer. The statement said that Syed Ali Gilani had called the press conference to refute the false and baseless allegations of NIA and biased Indian media. “The press conference was called to make aware the people and the world about the reality of these allegations, but the police and the puppet administration prevented the press conference,” the statement added. “Indian authorities resorted to character assassination of the pro-freedom leaders and services of agencies like NIA are being hired to defame them,” the statement said. “Biased media is propagating cooked and fabricated stories,” the APHC said. “For the past 70 years the Indian authorities and its biased media have carried out their defamatory campaign against the pro-freedom leadership.” Denying any unauthorised, illegal or disproportionate property being in Gilani’s custody, the APHC said that the daughters of Gilani are married and his two sons, Dr Nayeem Gilani and Naseem Gilani, have no illegal assets. Asserting that the conspiracies, negative propaganda and fabricated reports about properties won’t help New Delhi, nor would they dampen Kashmiris’ spirits, the APHC said, “The reports of properties prepared by NIA are quite fraud”. “We are considering the details and will come with the actual figures to make people and the world community aware about the misinformation campaign and malicious propaganda of Indian authorities,” the statement said.
Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the statement of outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner, Abdul Basit in which he had said that Pakistan was ready to fulfill the conditions of plebiscite according to the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
According to media sources, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Abdul Basit punctuated his pitch for dialogue with his advocacy for self-determination of the Kashmiri populace.
The Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be resolved for any real progress, he said.
Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Iqbal Mir Muhammad Ahsaan Untoo, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi, Ghulam Nabi War and Yasmeen Raja have paid glowing tributes to two martyrs Shariq Ahmad Sheikh and Shabbir Ahmad Mir. According to media sources, the Hurriyat leaders in their joint statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the use of pellets and bullets on peaceful protesters in which more than dozens got serious injuries. They said India cannot defeat the resolve and conviction of the freedom fighters as Kashmiri youth are offering huge sacrifices. They said youth had played an important role in internationalizing the movement and sacrifices offered by youths have center-staged Kashmir issue at global level which has added a new page in the ongoing resistance movement.
High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has condemned use of brute force on civilians by forces in Pulwama an termed it the worst kind of human rights violations.
According to media sources, the HCBA in its executive committee meeting also expressed surprise over the reasoning given by the Army Tribunal, in granting bail to the army officials, who were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by General Court Martial in 2014, for killing three Kashmir civilians, on the ground that the deceased were terrorists, who infiltrated across the border or were crossing over to the other side cannot be ruled out, because they were wearing Pathan suits, which are worn by terrorists.
It added, “The order of the Army Tribunal should be challenged by the puppet authorities before the Supreme Court of India and if they don’t do so, then the victim family should come forward and assail the said order before the apex court and the Bar Association shall always be ready to provide all the necessary legal aid and assistance to the victim families, as and when they approach the Bar Association, for the said purpose.”
India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), today, raided the ancestral home of Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Social Peace Forum (JKSPF), advocate Devender Singh Behal, who was arrested in Jammu, yesterday over his links with Hurriyat leadership.
According to media sources, Devender Singh Behal’s ancestral house is located in Nowshera town in Rajouri district. As part of its crackdown on Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders, the NIA on Sunday raided Behal’s home in Bakshi Nagar in Jammu and took him into custody. Four mobile phones, a tablet, electronic devices and financial documents were recovered during the search operation on Sunday. The NIA alleged that Behal is a member of the legal cell of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
