In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities disallowed congregational Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, today, for the sixth consecutive week.
According to media sources, all gates of Jamia Masjid were locked by the Indian forces while all roads leading to the historic mosque were blocked with concertina wires. The authorities also imposed curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar to prevent people from staging anti-India demonstrations. The authorities also continued to keep under house arrest the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who delivers Friday sermon at the Jamia Masjid. The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for peaceful protests after prayers, today, against the suspension of life sentences by a military court of five Indian army personnel involved in Machhil fake encounter and persecution of pro-freedom leadership. Indian army personnel had killed three youth, Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Riyaz Ahmad Lone and Muhammad Shafi Lone in Machil area of Kupwara district in a staged encounter on 29th April 2010 after luring them on the pretext of jobs and good money as porters.
