According to media sources, the family in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that Kashmir was the only territory in the world where an individual along with his family was ousted from his own house at Channapora in Srinagar on political basis. The statement said that the authorities could differ with the ideologies of Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori but why his family was being punished.

The family also demanded of the International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights organizations to play role in immediate release of the ailing Hurriyet leader as he had been suffering from various ailments and continued detention could be detrimental to his health.

It is to mention here that Indian police had arrested Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori during a condolence reference held in Sopore in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of renowned Kashmiri freedom activist, Ghulam Muhammad Bulla, on February 15, this year. Khan Sopori was ill at the time of his arrest.
