Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has condemned thrashing of a doctor by a police officer at SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
According to media sources, the DAK President, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan in a statement in Srinagar said, “This act of hooliganism against medical staff while discharging his professional duties is unacceptable.” He said it is shocking to see doctors being beaten while trying to save emergency patients. “Doctors put in their blood and sweat to save lives in extremely difficult conditions and instead of appreciation get thrashing. These episodes have become a routine and it is difficult for doctors to work in such hostile conditions,” he deplored. SMHS hospital has been turned into a battlefield where every day staff gets thrashed, he said. The Society of Dental Surgeons Jammu and Kashmir (SDSJK) President, Dr Imtiyaz Banday in his statement also condemned the assault on the doctor and demanded punitive action against the police officer.
