According to media sources, Adil Farooq Magray was killed in the firing of Indian forces’ personnel on peaceful protesters in Ganowpora in Shopian on Tuesday evening.

Thousands of people offered funeral prayers of the martyred student twice before he was laid to rest amidst wet eyes, high-pitched pro-freedom sloganeering and emotional scenes. Son of a farmer, Adil Farooq, was hit by a bullet after Indian forces opened fire on protesters during a military operation in Ganowpora area of Shopian.

Complete shutdown was observed in Shopian to protest against the killing of the student. Meanwhile, the mobile Internet services which were restored four days ago were again suspended in the Kashmir Valley after the killing of 18-year-old Adil Farooq, late Tuesday. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Butt, in a statement in Srinagar paid glowing tributes to Adil Farooq Magray. Zafar Butt visited the pellet victim Hazik Tariq – who has lost eyesight in his right eye – and inquired about his health. Later, the JKSM Chairman was again put under house arrest. A party delegation comprising Adnan Salfi, Sabzar Ahmed and Imtiyaz Ahmed visited Gonowpora and attended the funeral prayers of the martyred student. The Chairman of Islamic Political, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash in a statement expressed deep sorrow over the killing of young Aadil Farooq. He said the killing was a brutal act on the part of Indian forces.
