According to media sources, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing a gathering in Srinagar said that repeated shutdowns, peaceful protests and condemnation of state oppression by people of Chenab Valley showed their complete support and commitment to the Kashmir cause. He said, the people of Chenab Valley have made a great contribution and offered priceless sacrifices in the freedom struggle which can never be forgotten. “Although Hurriyat leadership is being barred from visiting these areas and meeting their brethren, people of Chenab Valley despite all odds are in a constant touch with the pro-freedom leadership,” he added.

The Mirwaiz said that the Kashmiris’ struggle was based on the principle of justice and they were committed to continue their fight for the right to self-determination till complete success. He said that the unity in resistance leadership in Kashmir had unnerved New Delhi which was trying to mislead people in India and the international community by falsely propagating that Kashmir’s freedom movement was confined to few districts and communities. “Let those in power in India get it clear that jailing, detaining, arresting or gagging the pro-movement leadership will not affect the determination of the people and their firmness to strive for their political aspirations,” he maintained.

The Mirwaiz said that Kashmir struggle was purely people’s movement. “This movement will remain alive as long as it lives in the hearts and minds of the people, whether the leadership is there to guide them or is behind bars,” he said.

He deplored that even in the holy month of Ramazan, authorities don’t refrain from committing atrocities on people as restrictions continue to be imposed on the movement of pro-freedom leaders and activists. He also demanded unconditional release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists languishing in different jails.
