He said that for Kashmiris no pro-India party was sacred. He said, the BJP has done a lot against Muslims and Kashmiris but Congress does not lag behind either. He said, irrespective of their religious ideologies Kashmiris believed that Kashmir is a political dispute and needs to be resolved politically. He said that (Indian) agencies were creating sectarian divide in occupied Kashmir by saying that promoting Sufism will change the political situation of the territory. Highlighting the role of Sufi scholars and leaders, Qazi Yasir said that some of the biggest Sufis have fought against occupiers, like Meerak Shah of Shalimar who led a people’s movement in 1929.
Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi and Muhammad Ramzan Khan, today, visited different areas of Srinagar and Badgam and continued the election boycott campaign.

On the occasion, the leaders appealed to the people stay away from the election drama being conducted in the territory with the help of heavy military might. They told people that through holding of such polls India was misleading the world community regarding the Kashmir dispute and the ground situation of the occupied territory. The General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Ramzan Khan, along with a delegation visited Battamaloo, Lal Chowk, Rajbagh and other areas of Srinagar and asked the people boycott the upcoming sham Indian Parliamentary elections in the territory. He said that Indian was holding such farcical elections to strengthen its illegal hold on Jammu and Kashmir. He said that sham polls could not be a substitute to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination promised to them by the UN through its several resolutions.
Hurriyet leaders and organizations have welcomed the concern expressed by the US and the UN over escalating tension between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir dispute.
According to media souces, the leaders in their separate statements issued in Srinagar termed as encouraging the statement of US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley that America would try and find its place in efforts to de-escalate Indo-Pak tensions and not wait till something happens.
While addressing a press conference after assuming the role of President of the Security Council at the United Nations for April, Nikki Haley said, “It’s absolutely right that this administration is concerned about the relationship between India and Pakistan and very much wants to see how we de-escalate any sort of conflict going forward.” Haley also indicated that President Donald Trump could play a role in such endeavours as the Trump administration was concerned about the relations between India and Pakistan.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement said that peace and prosperity of south Asia was subservient to resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He hoped that the statement of Nikki Haley would be translated into action. He said that it was obligatory on the US and other international powers to step in and resolve all pending disputes including Kashmir because the only resolutions of these disputes could ensure lasting peace, tranquility, prosperity and brotherhood among various nations and regions. “Billions of people across globe are suffering because of the international community’s attitude of perusing their foreign policies according to their business and security needs. This attitude has actually given rise to violence and sufferings and it was the need of hour that international powers like US rethink their strategies and work to resolve disputes and issues confronting humans,” he added. The JKLF Chairman maintained that the Kashmir dispute remained the main threat to peace in south Asia and if not resolved it could bring the whole region to nuclear catastrophe someday. People of Jammu Kashmir have been longing and striving for a peaceful settlement of this long pending dispute but till now international community has failed us, he added.
The Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement described the US assertion as encouraging particularly in the context of the present good relations between the US and India. The forum said that the Kashmir dispute was seven decades old and could not be resolved despite several rounds of talks between Pakistan and India. The statement said that tension between nuclear armed Pakistan and India was escalating with each passing day as a result of dispute over Jammu and Kashmir.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference General Secretary, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in his statement said that the assertion of the US was a good beginning and the most welcome step. He expressed the hope that other world nations would realise their responsibilities towards the Kashmir dispute and play their part in its settlement. “We hope the world nations and bodies including UN, EU, and OIC will mediate in de-escalating the Indo-Pak tensions and resolve the Kashmir conflict. The people of Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan have long been favouring the third-party intervention but India on one hand is continuously presenting a misleading justification over its illegal occupation and on other is showing stubbornness over the issue,” he said.
Shabbir Shah said that this development was a proof that despite the negative propaganda of India and its collaborators, the cries of the oppressed people of Jammu Kashmir were being heard across the globe and the world was seriously mulling to take initiatives regarding Kashmir. He urged the UK to also come forward to mediate as Kashmir was an unfinished agenda of partition (of India) and the creation of Britain.
Other Hurriyet leaders including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Bilal Siddiqui, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Javaid Ahmed Mir, Farooq Ahmed Dar and Sikh leader Narendra Singh Khalsa in their statements appreciated the concern expressed by the US and the UN over escalating tension between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir dispute.
They also praised the statement of Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman of the UN Secretary General who said the UN continues to underline the need for India and Pakistan to find a peaceful resolution through engagement and dialogue given the tense situation at Line of Control (LoC). The leaders urged India to respond positively to this option already stressed by Pakistan time and again. They said that running away from dialogue won’t be in the interest of India as it was the only peaceful, honest and just option left for settling the dispute and promoting friendly relations, they said.

Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), Aasiya Andrabi has said that Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi cannot hoodwink people of Kashmir by resorting to deceptive rhetoric.
According to media souces, Aasiya Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar while referring to Narendra Modi’s speech during the inauguration of Chenani-Nashri tunnel in Udhampur said, “The tunnel was inaugurated to facilitate the free-flow of occupational forces to Kashmir.” The purpose of building the tunnel is also to save resources that India spends while its forces are being transported via the traditional Patnitop route, she added. “Modi inaugurated just a tunnel and termed it an economic corridor. This is a joke of the millennium,” she said. On Modi’s ‘tourism and terrorism’ remarks, Aasiya Andrabi said, this sector largely benefits New Delhi. “The only way tourism affects Jammu and Kashmir is that it promotes an alien culture and destroys the ethos of this Muslim-majority place,” she added.
The DeM Chairperson said, the time to hoodwink the people of Kashmir has gone. “This is not the period when Sheikh Abdullah told that he would do anything and everything and people accepted that as gospel truth.” Aasiya Andrabi said that Kashmir’s economy had been destroyed under a well-thought-out conspiracy by the local puppets in connivance with India. “The major economic sector includes agriculture, horticulture, and the small scale handloom industries. These sectors, under a conspiracy, have been destroyed with an aim to cripple Kashmiris economically and not to allow them to self-sustain,” she added. The Working Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement, Mir Shahid Saleem, in a statement in Jammu urged the puppet authorities to release all pro-freedom leaders and allow them to carry on their political activities. He said that staging an election drama in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir was nothing more than a military exercise.
